It depends on how much we are talking about!
If I won about a million, I would get a pretty house, and spend it on the whole construction project management, perhaps make sure I can handle the taxes! One million can easily disappear!
If I won about five, I would still get the pretty house, of course, but I would also divide the rest of the money on :
- Savings
- charities and other causes that I take to heart
- Presents for my family and close friends
- Perhaps a trip to plan, or two
- Futilities, like : lots of books, funky jewelry, nice clothes…
And boom. The five million would vanish. I don’t fantacize on yatchs and other aspects of « luxury living ». I don’t think I would ever see the point of spending my money on a bag costing a whole ass salary… But nice things tend to cost quickly. I’d try to make it count, at least.
If I won ten million or more, that would be WORK, good people. Because I would have to invest it. I would have to see my banker alot. I would have to care about the businesses I invest in, and it would be a job, all in itself (poor imaginary me!).
Not mentionning the fact that it would be difficult to hide, and I would probably risk harassment and manipulation. My relationships would change, and I would have to change mindset to cope with the new situation.
I don’t think I would like it. I mean : I would certainly enjoy the advantages. But would I be able to handle the inconvenients?
But five million, please. By all means. 🙂
